ROACH CLEANOUT PROGRAM

Revised 6/12/19

Cockroaches are most active at night, leaving their harborage to find food and water. They remain hidden in dark, secluded harborage areas, such as under cupboards, behind cabinets, in wall voids, and around motor housings in appliances where they spend up to 75% of their time. At most, only about one third of the population forages at night. Observation of foraging cockroaches during the day is a good indication of an overcrowded population situation. This overcrowding will force some to relocate.

Determine where the roaches are mainly located and the severity of the infestation. Ask the customer how many they have seen, size, color, length and width. It is ideal to have an uncrushed specimen.

The Roach Cleanout Program includes conducting a complete and thorough walk-through inspection, ensuring that all birds and birdcages are removed, ensure that any fish tank recirculation pump is turned off and that all fish and reptile tanks are covered. Treat the interior perimeter, concentrating on perceived and inspected problem areas of concern. Treat the outside perimeter.

An effective cockroach management program depends on good sanitation to eliminate the food, water, and harborage they need to survive. Cleanup to reduce cockroaches in the home and office environment must focus mainly on the food residue in and around coffee machines, microwave ovens, stoves, refrigerators, trash cans, furniture, electronic equipment, and areas where exposed food is stored. It is critical to reduce clutter as cockroaches like to hide in stacked boxes, cartons, and stored paper and cardboard materials, especially in dark, damp locations, near food.

Treat the required treatment areas for quicker results where the threshold level requires quicker results (such as restaurants, hotels and other commercial accounts). Depending on the severity of the infestation, it may be required that a follow-up treatment be scheduled and provided after the first cleanout treatment. Be aware that this generally affects commercial accounts if being set up as a regular routine service. Inform the customer that they will still see roaches after the first treatment – although at greatly reduced numbers. Let them know that the recently laid eggs will need to hatch before they become infected.

Baiting will usually take a bit longer to control a heavily infested area, but it is just as effective – especially when cabinets, etc. are not cleaned out. But ensure to inform the customer that the bait may become contaminated and rendered ineffective if they try using other retail sprays, household or commercial cleaners, etc.

SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS

Prep Steps:  The customer should have been informed of the required Prep Steps by an A-1 Account Manager or a Sales Team member.

  • Clean out the kitchen cabinets (only required if customer is seeing more than 5 roaches in a day or they have had the problem for greater than a month).

  • Place items removed from the cabinets on a table and cover.

  • Cover all food or place in the refrigerator.

  • Pick up toys and clothes off the floor.

  • Take out all trash and trash bags.

  • Plan on the customer and any pets being out of the home for about three (3) hours.

Inspection:

  • Inspect the entire inside, including attics and basements, looking for harborage areas and insect access points.

  • Inspect any areas that could provide conducive conditions to insect activity.

  • Inspect all exterior areas of the structure, including crawlspaces, exterior foundations, soffits, etc.

  • Identify or verify the pest roach that has the customer concerned to determine the treatment method and the material to be used.

Approved Product List:

  • Inside treatment (B&G): Demand CS; Temprid; Onslaught; Nyguard

  • Baiting treatment: MaxForce Quantum Roach Bait; Advion Roach Bait

Baiting:

  • Provide a baiting treatment inside the cabinetry of the kitchen sink, dish cabinets, and in wall joists high and low in cabinet (small bait placements to be positioned in out-of-the-way locations as required).

  • Bait inside stove top when lifted around hinges, in enclosed oven door hinges, and below and behind the stove when the pan drawer is removed.

  • Bait under and behind refrigerator, and on the back of the unit close to the motor – use caution to not cause damage to flooring if moving appliances.

  • Bait all kitchen counter appliances as required, such as microwave, toaster, etc.

  • Check all bathrooms and bedrooms for signs of roaches and bait as necessary.

  • Place stand-alone bait stations as required, such as in wet or dusty areas to protect the bait, or in areas hard to reach with the bait tube.

  • Check behind outlet face plates and switch covers in known high activity areas for roaches and bait as necessary.

  • Apply bait to any accessible wall void.

  • Bait voids under sinks and plumbing line penetration points.

Inside Treatment (do NOT treat areas that have been baited):

  • Start at the main door and move to the right (or left) with B&G. Treat entrance ways and other critical points – base boards either side of the doors for 10 feet, and cracks & crevices found around windows and door frames (be careful not to spray windows).

  • Kitchen area – treat base boards, pull out bottom of stove, treat behind refrigerator, open cabinets below sink and visually inspect and treat as required.

  • Continue around inside of home in the same direction – do not treat the entire base board but visually inspect.

  • Bathrooms – treat all baseboards as discussed above, treat under sinks and inside cabinets as necessary.

  • Continue in the same direction until back to main door.

  • Basements – treat all baseboards and ceiling joists if exposed. If a finished basement, treat same as the main floor.

  • Upstairs – treat all finished upper floors same as the main floor.
